Admissions Notice - Special Class
Dear Parents,
One place will become available in our special class in September 2025. We will be accepting applications for this place between now and April. Parents should read carefully the attached policies and documents in regards what's required for applications to be valid, waiting lists, admission criteria, admission categories and a timeline of the procedures. Prospective parents should also consult the school website for other policies.
As of 2024, parents looking to enrol their child in a special class should notify the NCSE by February 1st and engage with them on the range of options available to meet the needs of their child or young person. Parents are now also required to obtain a letter from the NCSE to submit with their admission application for a special class, confirming that the child meets the requirements for enrolment in that setting.
Applications that don't have all relevant required documentation will not be considered. Please ensure all documentation is submitted with the application form:
- Application Form
- Copy of birth certificate.
- Proof of address
- A written psychological assessment /report (dated within the six months prior to the Application being submitted) and/or a written report from a multi-disciplinary team must be provided. A multi-disciplinary team may consist of a Clinical Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Speech & Language Therapist, Social Worker and a Physiotherapist. Please note all reports in operation on a child should be provided to the school for assessment by the Admissions Team (Principal, SEN Coordinator, Special Class Teachers).
- There must be a recommendation by the relevant professionals in the report that a special class placement in a mainstream school is both necessary and suitable for the child. In this regard it should be noted that the academic ability of the child will be taken into account when considering an application and will be subject to continuous assessment and review
- Letter from the NCSE confirming that the child meets the requirements for placement in our special class.
ALL APPLICATIONS TO BE SUBMITTED BY EMAIL TO: principal@stlukesmontenotte.ie
Valid applications will be reviewed in early May and places will be offered based on the order of our admissions categories (see admissions policy). In the event that the number of children that apply for a place is greater than the number of places, such places will be filled on review of Enrolment Applications received in line with the school Admissions Policy. In the event that there are multiple valid applications within a category, a draw will take place for the available place(s).
